Samsung’s Galaxy S flagships from last year – the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge – carried model numbers of SM-G920 and G925, respectively. The Galaxy S7 and S7 edge smartphones launched earlier this year came with SM-G930 and SM-G935 model numbers.

So, it was reasonable to expect that the Galaxy S8 flagships will carry model numbers of SM-G940 and SM-G945. However, contrary to expectations, a rumor from September revealed that the device will come with SM-G950 and SM-G955 model numbers instead.

Now, the usually reliable leakster Evan Blass – who goes by the handle @evleaks on Twitter – has also confirmed this information.

Aside from this, the leakster also revealed that a handset with model number SM-N950 is also in the works at the South Korean company. Clearly, that model number suggests that the device in question is a Galaxy Note series phone, although given the Note7 fiasco, it will be interesting to see what moniker the handset will eventually carry.
